Command Sergeant Major Robert F. Carter


180403-A-WF450-0079CSM  Robert F. Carter entered the Army 11 August 1995     from Vineland, New Jersey and conducted One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Benning, Georgia where he was awarded the Infantry Military occupational Specialty.

CSM Carter’s assignments include M249 SAW Gunner, Radio Telephone Operator (RTO), Grenadier, and Rifle Team Leader in 1-325 Airborne Infantry Regiment (A.I.R.), 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Rifle Team Leader and Squad Leader in 1-501st Parachute Infantry Regiment (P.I.R.), 172nd Infantry Brigade, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), Alaska; Rifle Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant, 1-509th P.I.R., Fort Polk, Louisiana;  Squad Leader, Rifle Platoon Sergeant, and Anti-Tank Platoon Sergeant Observer/Controller (OC), in Operations Group, Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC), Fort Polk, Louisiana; Rifle Platoon Sergeant, Reconnaissance Platoon Sergeant, and Rifle Company First Sergeant in 2-1 Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT), 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), Washington; Bravo Company First and Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) First Sergeant, 6th Ranger Training Battalion, Ranger Training Brigade (RTB), Eglin Air Force Base, Florida; and most recently served as an Operational Advisor (OA) and Troop Sergeant Major in Baker Squadron, Asymmetric Warfare Group (AWG), Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.    

SGM Carter has deployed to Sinai, Egypt in support of the Multi-National Force and Observers (MFO) mission; Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF); and numerous countries throughout the Pacific Command (PACOM) in support of AWG’s global mission.  CSM Carter’s military education includes, Airborne School, Combat Life Savers Course (CLS), Warrior Leaders Course, Ranger School, Air Assault School, Jumpmaster School, Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Course (EMT-B), Army Mobile Retention Course, Advance Leaders Course (ALC), Pathfinder Course, Mobilization and Deployment Planners Course,  Master Resiliency Training Course (MRT), Senior Leaders Course (SLC), Operational Advisors Training Course (OATC), and is a graduate of Class 64 of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA). His civilian education includes an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts and Science from Excelsior College.

CSM Carter’s awards and decorations include, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3 oak leaf clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (2 oak leaf clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (2 oak leaf clusters), Army Superior Unit Award, the National Defense Service Medal (1 oak leaf cluster), the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Multi-National Force and Observers  Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal (1 oak leaf cluster), the Army Good Conduct Medal (7th award), the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Parachutist Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, the Russian Parachutist Badge, the Ranger Tab, and was awarded the Order of Saint Maurice, Centurion level, for his outstanding contribution to the Infantry. 

CSM Carter currently resides in Vienna, Virginia with his wife Sandy. They have two sons, Robert (22) and Ethan (20).
